TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey is getting socked by a nor’easter that’s expected to drop a few inches of rain and spawn powerful winds that could knock down trees and power lines.
Rain continued to fall over most of the state Monday night and was expected to continue through Tuesday afternoon. That slowed down the evening commute, as several roads flooded and drivers dealt with strong winds that gusted up to 60 mph in some areas.
Whipping winds blew part of the roof off an oceanfront condo building in Long Branch in Monmouth County. Debris fell onto several parked cars below.
Many beaches were left battered by the storm.
Coastal flooding and high wind warnings were in effect for most areas through Tuesday morning. Scattered power outages also were reported.
