D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after decomposing human remains were found behind a vacant home in D’Iberville.
Police Chief Wayne Payne tells the Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/2jh9B6h ) that a man and his son smelled a suspicious odor while riding their bicycles. They followed the smell to a run-down shed and the man spotted a body and called police at 4:25 p.m. Sunday.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says the adult male appears to have died a week to 10 days earlier.
The newspaper reports officers used a chain saw to cut away bamboo and then used a backhoe to remove part of the metal building so they could retrieve the body.
Payne says police are treating it as a suspicious death and an autopsy will be conducted to determine how the man died.
