MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A deputy state’s attorney in Vermont’s most populous county has been appointed the county’s top prosecutor.

Republican Gov. Phil Scott announced Thursday that Sarah George would become the next Chittenden County State’s Attorney.

George replaces T.J. Donovan who became Vermont’s new attorney general earlier this month.

Scott says George is a strong, decisive prosecutor who came highly recommended.

He says he’s confident George will serve the people of Chittenden County well.

George has served as deputy state’s attorney since 2011. She prosecuted thousands of cases, including aggravated assault, domestic violence, attempted murder and murder.
