On the same day that President Obama commuted almost all of Chelsea Manning’s remaining sentence, another well-known hacker of U.S. secrets got a gift — from the Kremlin.
The Russian government announced Wednesday afternoon that Edward Snowden has had his asylum in Russia extended.
“Snowden has just extended the term of the residence permit in Russia for another couple of years,” said Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Ms. Zakharova made the announcement on Facebook in Russian, according to Kommersant, a liberal-leaning broadsheet newspaper.
