Singer Marie Osmond denied Thursday that she would ever be singing at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration next week.
In a statement posted on her Twitter account, she said she never intended to perform at the ceremony, “no matter who won.”
While Entertainment Weekly magazine noted Thursday that Ms. Osmond and her brother Donnie performed at an inaugural ball for President Reagan in 1981, the entertainer said on Twitter that its her policy to eschew partisan politics.
“I had no intention of performing at this inauguration, no matter who won!” she wrote.
In an interview this week, Ms. Osmond said that the presidential inauguration was an occasion where “we should come together.”
That said, it seems Ms. Osmond is not necessarily ruling out performing for or at least appearing at a function with Mr. Trump sometime in his presidential term.
“I have performed for several Presidents, done USO tours, and my charity, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals takes children to the White House to visit the President every year — regardless of who the sitting President is,” she said in her Twitter statement.
