KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) - Members of an Oregon riverside community have prepared for potential weekend flooding.

The Sprague River is expected to rise past its minor flood point of 8.5 feet by Friday evening, causing flooding that will likely last through Sunday, reported The Herald & News reports (https://bit.ly/2k7BrPI ).

Klamath County began providing residents sand bags Wednesday morning. The communities of Beatty, Sprague River and Chiloquin could be affected by the flood.

Sprague River residents have been making sure households and other structures are protected and said they hope the flood will help strengthen their community.

“I’d say it’s actually bringing the community together,” said resident Bob Sanders, who has lived through multiple floods in the region. The latest forecasts predict the river will peak at 9.2 feet this weekend, causing minor flooding similar to what the area experienced in 2006.

Sanders is the manager of Whistler’s Trading Post just outside the town of Sprague River. He said he plans to keep the store open during flooding and doesn’t expect to run out of supplies.

Klamath County Community Manager Morgan Lindsay said communities like Sprague River have a history of helping each other during hard times.

“They just take care of each other and pull together,” she said.
