DOVER, Del. (AP) - Transportation officials in Delaware are warning motorists to leave extra time for travel because roads could be slick with snow or ice.

The Department of Transportation said in a statement Thursday that pretreating roads wouldn’t be effective since the storm began with rain that’s forecast to turn to snow.

Crews are staged along major routes, ready to begin applying salt when snow begins falling, but officials say people should watch for slick areas on roads.

Officials urge motorists to give plows space and to not pass them while they apply salt or plow.
