NEW YORK (AP) - Mayor Bill de Blasio says he’s optimistic that New York City will be “largely back to normal” on Friday, including the reopening of public schools.
De Blasio did add a disclaimer, though: “Check in a few hours to see if that’s still true.”
A winter storm warning remains in effect for New York City until 6 p.m. Snow accumulations between 10 and 14 inches are predicted.
Emergency management official Calvin Drayton calls it a “very dangerous storm.” He says wind chill factors are expected to be very low for several days.
Outreach teams are working to get homeless people indoors.
The mayor says cars have been “swerving and sliding” and driving is not advised.
Some buses have gotten stuck, but the mayor says transit overall is running pretty well.
