MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says he doesn’t think K-12 schools will get as much money as Gov. Scott Walker proposed.

Fitzgerald said at a Thursday luncheon hosted by Wispolitics.com that many schools will get more money, but not the full $649 million Walker called for.

Fitzgerald says he expects the budget to pass by July 1. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said Wednesday the budget debate could drag into the fall as lawmakers search for a long-term solution to transportation funding.

One big fight in the Legislature will be over how much money to borrow for roads funding. Fitzgerald says Fitzgerald also questions whether a University of Wisconsin tuition cut or move to self-insurance would have enough support to pass.
