HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A Hattiesburg pastor has started serving a three-year prison sentence after being found guilty of conspiracy and theft of federal housing funds.

The Rev. Kenneth Fairley was ordered to report Thursday to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. An official with the Pensacola Federal Prison Camp tells The Hattiesburg American (https://hatne.ws/2k9pdpT ) Fairley has been processed into the prison.

Fairley’s attorneys tried to delay his report date by filing a motion Wednesday for an extension, citing medical reasons. But that effort was quickly denied. U. S. District Judge Keith Starrett says Fairley was sentenced in December, so he should have had enough time to take care of his medical needs before his report date.

Until now, Fairley, pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, had remained free on $25,000 bond.
