BUCKEYE, Ariz. (AP) - Buckeye’s water director has announced his resignation following months of dispute between some residents and the city over rising water bills.

David Nigh’s resignation will become effective on Feb. 25.

He had been placed on paid administrative leave in December.

Dozens of Buckeye residents started noticing huge increases in their water bills back last October.

One resident’s water bill spike was as high as $441,000.

City officials say Buckeye has credited back a handful of customers a total of more than $13,000.
