HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - A Cleburne County sheriff’s deputy has been fired over an ethics violation after giving conflicting information about driving past a stopped school bus.

Sheriff Chris Brown tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/2k7cVmx ) that Deputy Todd Maxey was dismissed Wednesday. The sheriff says an investigation determined Maxey gave conflicting statements about driving past a stopped school bus as children were stepping off the bus.

The investigation was conducted after the sheriff’s office received a complaint about a deputy driving past the stopped bus. The sheriff’s office says the deputy violated the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics when he provided contradicting accounts of the incident during the investigation.

Maxey was cited after the investigation found he committed a traffic violation.

Brown says Maxey had been a deputy “on and off” since 2003.
