PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A snowstorm plowing through the region could dump 8 to 14 inches on Rhode Island.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Meteorologists say the first flakes will fall early Thursday morning. The snow will fall heavy at times through the afternoon before tapering off to snow showers early Thursday evening.
Gov. Gina Raimondo announced late Wednesday night that all state offices would be closed for non-essential personnel Thursday.
The Democratic governor is encouraging drivers to plan for extra time and drive slowly if they must be out on the roads.
Meteorologists say snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour will be possible at times along with some blowing and drifting snow.
