ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. (AP) - Work is set to begin on a building in New Jersey that once drew protests on both sides of the Hudson River.

LG Electronics on Tuesday will break ground on its new North American headquarters in Englewood Cliffs.

When it was proposed in 2014, a coalition of environmental groups and elected officials from New Jersey and New York said the 143-foot tower would breach the tree line and irreversibly alter the view of the Palisades. The steep cliff formation runs along the New Jersey side of the river and crosses the border into New York state.

Opponents were satisfied when the electronics company redesigned the project, cutting the height.

LG Electronics was praised by Lawrence Rockefeller, whose famous family donated the Palisades 80 years ago.
