ATMORE, Ala. (AP) - A longtime Alabama prison worker is charged with trying to smuggle drugs into the maximum-security Holman prison at Atmore.
The Department of Corrections says investigators have arrested 64-year-old Curtis Andrews of Mobile. He managed the canteen at Holman and has worked for the prison system since 1990.
A statement from the department says Andrews was charged with possession of a controlled substance, trafficking and promoting prison contraband.
The department says a search dog indicated the presence of drugs on Andrews’ vehicle. The prison system says investigators then found synthetic marijuana and methamphetamine wrapped in packages and concealed in Andrews’ clothing.
Court records aren’t yet available to show whether Andrews has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
