PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Portland police arrested a 63-year-old man accused of shooting another man in the head.
Sgt. Pete Simpson said Monday that officers found the middle-aged victim shortly after midnight in North Portland. He says the man provided information about the suspect before he was taken to the hospital.
Officers quickly spotted the suspect driving away and took him into custody without incident. He has been identified as Dennis Ray Howie.
Simpson says Howie was booked into jail on an assault charge and will be arraigned Tuesday.
The victim was listed in serious condition at a Portland hospital.
Simpson says the men knew each before the shooting, and detectives are trying to determine what triggered the violence.
