RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The second day of an early December storm has blanketed the mid-Atlantic region with a fresh coating of snow.
But police say there have been fewer car crashes as many people stayed off the roads amid cancelled weekend activities.
The storm began falling Friday and continued through the afternoon Saturday, dumping anywhere from a light coating to six inches of snow.
Virginia state police responded to more than 200 crashes during the first part of the storm. But the number or accidents dropped significantly Saturday afternoon.
Dominion Energy reported about 13,000 customers were without power late Saturday afternoon.
In Maryland, the National Weather Service was predicting up to four inches of snow by late Saturday. Emergency management officials planned to open warming centers in Baltimore, Pasadena, Odenton and Edgewater Saturday night through Sunday morning.
