NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Prosecutors say a man has been convicted in connection with a 1990 rape in New Orleans.
NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports 59-year-old Tyrone Warner was convicted Wednesday on charges of aggravated rape and aggravated kidnapping.
In a news release, Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro says a then-22-year-old woman was holding her 18-month-old son when she was abducted and raped at gunpoint.
Warner was linked to the crime through a DNA sample that was taken by authorities after his 2010 arrest for an unrelated crime. Prosecutors say Warner matched a sample in the Combined DNA Indexing system database that was recovered from the rape victim.
Warner’s sentencing is set for January. The newspaper says a lawyer for Warner wasn’t immediately available for comment Wednesday.
