PHOENIX (AP) - A medical examiner’s report shows the death of a prominent fake news writer was due to mixing several drugs including the powerful opioid fentanyl.
The Arizona Republic reports the autopsy and toxicology results from the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office indicate 38-year-old Paul Horner had a mixture of opioids, sedatives and alcohol in his system. The report was made public Tuesday.
Horner was found dead in his bed outside of Phoenix in mid-September. Authorities say there were no signs of foul play.
Horner was a leading purveyor of fake news and was known for disseminating internet hoaxes that often went viral on Facebook and hoodwinked thousands of people.
Horner took on greater prominence during the last presidential election when his stories widely were shared on social media.
