With starting nose tackle Ziggy Hood out for Sunday’s season finale against the New York Giants due to a fractured elbow, Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Manusky discussed who might take Hood’s spot in the lineup following Thursday’s practice.

“Well, right now we’re going through it with [defensive line coach] Jim Tomsula,” Manusky said. “We don’t know exactly all the time, but across the board, it might be [Stacy] McGee — looking at him a little bit. And then looking at a couple other players that have and we’ll see who comes out.”

Having come over from the Oakland Raiders as a free agent this past offseason, McGee has started 10 games for the Redskins in 2017 as a defensive end but has experience playing on the interior of the line from his time in Oakland.

In Washington’s 3-4 scheme, the Oklahoma product has enjoyed one of his most productive seasons in the NFL, recording a career-high 23 solo tackles and a pass defended.

Manusky praised McGee’s athletic ability in his press conference on Thursday, as well as his ability to adjust to a new defensive system this season.

“I think from a physical standpoint, he’s got all the tools across the board. His strength, he’s stout. He’s getting push … he’s got great ability to move his feet. Just overall … he’s coming from a different system and coming to another system — takes a little bit of time, but I’m excited for what Stacy’s brought to the table so far.”
