PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A 25-year-old man has been arrested in the stabbing of a passenger aboard a light-rail train in Portland.

Sgt. Chris Burley of the Portland Police Bureau said Wednesday that James Stanley was booked into jail on a charge of second-degree assault.

Passengers called 9-1-1 to report the stabbing Tuesday night. The violence occurred as the train pulled into a station in outer southeast Portland.

Witnesses told police the suspect left the train and got on a westbound TriMet bus. Officers boarded the bus at nearby intersection and took him into custody.

Burley says the victim was taken to a hospital by ambulance, and is expected to survive.
