Sen. Susan Collins of Maine said Monday she’ll vote yes on congressional Republicans’ tax-cut package, as GOP holdouts steadily fall in line behind the plan before expected votes in the House and Senate this week.
“This legislation will provide tax relief to working families, encourage the creation of jobs right here in America, and spur economic growth that will benefit all Americans,” Ms. Collins said in a floor speech.
The support from Ms. Collins, one of the few remaining GOP senators who had been on the fence, now marks another “yes” vote for increasingly confident Republican leaders as they look to pass the plan this week.
Republicans, who hold a 52-48 majority in the Senate, will be dealing with at least one absence, as Sen. John McCain of Arizona is home recovering from cancer treatment.
But the support from Ms. Collins and several other prior holdouts, such as Marco Rubio, Mike Lee and Bob Corker, puts the bill on track for passage in the Senate.
