TULLAHOMA, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say a police officer shot and wounded a man in Tennessee while trying to serve a warrant.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a news release that a Tullahoma officer encountered 44-year-old William Moon on Sunday afternoon and opened fire after the situation escalated. The agency said it was investigating why the situation escalated.

District Attorney Craig Northcott told WTVF-TV that police went to a mobile home to serve a warrant on charges of aggravated assault and the subject attacked an officer.

Moon was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown. No officers were injured.

The bureau says it will conduct an investigation and the District Attorney General’s office will determine if the use of deadly force was justified.
