PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say an 11-year-old boy is hospitalized with burns after a Christmas tree caught fire at a Phoenix home.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say crews responded early Sunday to the fire that occurred on the first floor of a two-story house near 35th and Southern avenues.

They say a family of four was awoken by their smoke detectors and encountered heavy smoke and fire as they escaped through the front door.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

Fire investigators say the fire was caused by the wiring on a Christmas tree.

They say the injured boy suffered second-degree burns to his torso, hands and face as well as smoke inhalation and is in stable condition at a Phoenix burn center.

Authorities say nobody else in the home was injured.
