AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine’s governor says he has appointed Labor Department spokeswoman Julie Rabinowitz as his new press secretary.

Rabinowitz will start as Gov. Paul LePage’s press secretary on Sept. 5. She replaces LePage’s long-time press secretary Adrienne Bennett, who left the administration this month for a job at Kennebec Savings Bank.

The governor said Tuesday that Rabinowitz has worked with his communications team and policy advisers as director of policy, operations and communication for the Maine Department of Labor.

Rabinowitz previously taught writing and communities courses at the University of Southern Maine, Bates College and Colby College. She has held management and executive positions in government and non-profit organizations.

She earned her master’s degree in communication studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The governor’s term ends in 2018.
