FLORIDA DEPUTIES SHOOT, INJURE WOMAN WHO POINTED GUN AT THEM
Hernando County Sheriff’s officials said in a news release the shooting happened Sunday afternoon in Brooksville. They say the woman was reported to be suicidal and was armed with a shotgun and had access to other weapons inside the home. The woman walked out of the home and lifted and pointed the gun at several deputies. The deputies fired, hitting her. She was taken to a hospital.
NO ONE HURT AFTER PLANE EMERGENCY LANDS ON A FLORIDA HIGHWAY
Local news outlets report the pilot decided to land Sunday night near John Anderson Highway in Flagler Beach. Florida Highway Patrol says a responding trooper found the aircraft in an eastbound lane on State Road 100 shortly before 8:30 p.m. The 35-year-old pilot of the 1968 Mooney M20C said it began losing all power after refueling at Flagler Executive Airport as its engine and electronics onboard failed midflight.
2 STABBING VICTIMS RESCUED ON BOAT OFF FLORIDA COAST
Coast Guard officials say they were notified Sunday night that two crew members of the commercial vessel Bill B were stabbed by a third member about 40 miles south of Pensacola. Coast Guard crews hoisted the men to a helicopter and took them to Pensacola Baptist Hospital. Officials say one crew member was in stable condition, the other was listed as critical. A Coast Guard boat crew detained the suspect.
FLORIDA PRISONS NO LONGER UNDER LOCKDOWN
The Florida Department of Corrections announced Monday the restrictions at all of the state’s institutions have been lifted. Last week the FDC announced the lockdown and that visitation was cancelled at all institutions Saturday and Sunday after officials received an unspecified threat of violence. The lockdown at the facilities began Wednesday and continued through the weekend.
FLORIDA SUPREME COURT REJECTS APPEAL OF THURSDAY’S EXECUTION
Justices rejected an appeal Monday on behalf of Mark Asay, who is set to die on Thursday for killing two men in Jacksonville in 1987. Asay, who is white, used a racial epithet when he shot Robert Lee Booker, who is black. The 2nd victim, Robert McDowell, had been described as black in some testimony, but was either white or Hispanic.
