SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say more than a dozen families have been forced from their suburban New York City apartments after a fire broke out and quickly spread through the structure.
Fire officials in the Rockland County village of Spring Valley tell The Journal News (https://lohud.us/2w5GvLx ) that the blaze started around 7 p.m. Tuesday in a second-level apartment on Union Road.
The apartment was fully engulfed in flames as scores of firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes of receiving a 911 call. No injuries were reported, but officials say five cats were killed.
The Red Cross say’s it’s helping more than 53 people from 13 families who were forced from their apartments.
Officials say two apartments were destroyed and 10 others sustained damage.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
