LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - A Maine woman is going to have to wait a bit longer to find out whether animal welfare officials are going to return 64 pets seized from her apartment.

A district judge delayed a hearing Tuesday for 29-year-old Samantha Bell of Lewiston to give her time to request a court-appointed lawyer and to review court documents.

The Sun Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2o2RO5b ) that her request to have a service dog in the interim was rejected by the judge.

Officials say one pet was dead and others needed medical attention when they arrived a month ago. The animals included cats, dogs, chinchillas, snakes, gerbils, hamsters and lizards. Bell has said that the animals were well cared for.
