Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Potomac,” just kicked of its second season, and already there’s catfights, marital tension and juicy drama. Which is all that it takes to make this popular reality series a hit with viewers.
“Real Housewives of Potomac,” the eighth iteration of the “Real Housewives” franchise, focuses on the personal and professional lives of a group of well-to-do Maryland women: Gizelle Bryant, Ashley Darby, Robyn Dixon, Karen Huger, Charrisse Jackson-Jordan and Monique Samuels.
“Real Housewives of Washington D.C.” debuted in 2010 but was cancelled after one season due to low ratings.
The Washington Times talked exclusively with cast members Ms. Bryant and Ms. Huger about what is in store for fans this season.
Question: What’s the best thing about setting the series near Washington?
Gizelle Bryant: Potomac is an extremely gorgeous place. The cherry blossoms alone make Potomac’s beauty hard to beat.
I love the fact that we have D.C. at our backdoor to showcase as well as Northern Virginia. I think the viewers are enjoying getting to see all that this area has to offer.
Karen Huger: Potomac is a jewel of a town situated between … Virginia and D.C. It doesn’t get any juicier than that.
Q: What can we expect this season?
GB: This season you can expect to see my mom. She is me, but to the 10th power. She is one of my favorite people — very classy but no nonsense.
KH: Viewers can expect to get to know me on a deeper level. I’m peeling back the layers and allowing a closer look at my daily life, past and present.
Q: What do you like about being on the series? And how was season 1 for you?
GB: I like the opportunity to show my life. I am very proud of who I am and enjoy being able to show it. Season 1 was initially a little tough. It takes some adjusting getting used to cameras being around.
KH: I feel grateful to be a part of the Bravo family. Season 1 was eye-opening for me; I heard myself say some things that I wish I had said differently. And I certainly saw myself in an outfit I no longer own!
I learned a lot. The most important thing I learned was to continue to be true to me.
Q: Watching season 1, what did you think?
GB: I thought, wow, we are a group of funny, smart and highly opinionated ladies. I realized that I don’t take things too seriously, which I think is a good thing.
KH: Watching season 1, I thought, did I really say that or did I really wear that?
Q: Gizelle, last year you hosted a birthday party in D.C. Will we see more of your area this season?
GB: Yes, most definitely. We are out and about all over the D.C. area at restaurants, clubs and bars.
KH: And last year Charrisse hosted her 50th birthday party in D.C. too, and that was fun.
You never know where we will pop up! I guess you have to stay tuned.
Q: Do you ever want to talk about politics on the series with so much going on?
GB: Not really. “The Real Housewives of Potomac” is on Bravo, an entertainment network, not CNN. However, catch me in a parking lot on a political “alternative facts” day and we can chat for hours.
KH: Quite honestly, I would welcome political conversation on the series. It couldn’t hurt.
“Real Housewives of Potomac” airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. Eastern on Bravo.
