JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The National Weather Service confirms a tornado hit central Mississippi during Wednesday night storms.

A survey shows that a twister with top winds of 105 mph (170 kph) struck just north of Walnut Grove in Leake County around 10:30 p.m. The tornado, rated EF-1 on the enhanced Fujita scale, traveled northeast for 10.7 miles (17 kilometers) crossing into Neshoba County and lifting off north of Sebastapol. The path was as much as 600 yards (550 meters).

The tornado uprooted trees, destroyed outbuildings, and damaged roofs and siding on some homes.



No injuries were reported.
