GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - A 68-year-old man has died while trying to extinguish a fire in his house in the northeastern Colorado town of Briggsdale.

The Weld County sheriff’s office tells the Greeley Tribune (bit.ly/2ozH7F5) that the fire was reported just before 4 a.m. Sunday.

Sheriff’s Cpl. Matt Turner says a woman escaped and called 911, but the man stayed behind and tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. The fire spread from the living room to the rest of the house while the man was still inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The man’s name was not immediately released.
