HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - The sign at the Islamic center of Hattiesburg has been vandalized.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/2p0eHFx ) the sign in front of the city’s Islamic Center was knocked out of its frame early Friday morning.

Jerry Buti helped establish the center in 2008 and says whoever removed the sign is welcome to meet and pray with members.

Buti has been in Hattiesburg for almost 40 years and says he’s never experienced negativity. He also says the sign was vandalized another time a year ago but neither incident has been reported to police.

In 2014 shots fired into the center damaged windows and walls but no one was hurt.
