CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A state prison inmate, in Berlin, New Hampshire, has been sentenced to 2 ½ years in federal prison months after pleading guilty to assaulting another inmate with a homemade weapon.

Prosecutors said Ruben Garcia’s sentence will be consecutive to the current 12 ½-year sentence he’s serving for conspiracy to possess cocaine and marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Court documents say on Sept. 8, 2016, prison staff members observed the 32-year-old Garcia striking the inmate with what looked like a lock inside of an athletic sock. The attack was recorded the prison’s video security system.

Garcia pleaded guilty in December.
