ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Special government airplanes that track hurricanes by flying straight into them will be on display at Reagan National Airport.

The National Weather Service announced that four of its Hurricane Hunter aircraft will be on display May 9 at Reagan.

Public tours of the planes will begin at 2 p.m. Gates will close at 4:30 p.m.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration use Lockheed WP-3D Orion turboprop aircraft, along with its Gulfstream jets, to fly in, around and above tropical storms to measure their intensity and forecast their path.

Weather Service officials will be on hand to discuss hurricane preparedness.
