FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - A volunteer diver participating in the week-long search for a missing motorist at Fort Hood has died after being found in distress over the weekend at the sprawling Army post.

Authorities said Lori Pohanka-Kalama was found Saturday along a creek that was part of the search area for the motorist believed to have been swept from a vehicle April 11 by rising floodwaters.

Pohanka-Kalama was taken to a medical center on the post and then transferred to a Temple hospital, where she died Sunday.

Officials say she was a volunteer with the police dive team for Morgan’s Point Resort, a town near Fort Hood along Belton Lake.

The motorist went missing after up to 8 inches of rain fell in the region last week.
