DENVER (AP) - A sheriff’s deputy is accused kicking a fleeing suspect off a roof northeast of Denver, then lying about it in a police report.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/bGJ2LB ) 33-year-old James Cook, an Adams County deputy, is charged with second-degree assault stemming from the March 21 chase that injured a 24-year-old domestic violence suspect. Investigators say the suspect climbed onto a rooftop in Brighton and fell during a confrontation with Cook.

Witnesses say the deputy forced the man off the building.

According to court documents, Cook said “Yeah, I slipped and fell. … I’ll go with that” when talking to other officers about the incident. He then wrote in his police report that he lost his footing and slid down into the suspect, who fell about 10 feet and broke his pelvis.

Booking documents don’t indicate if Cook has an attorney.
