FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A former accountant in Arkansas accused of stealing money from Benton County’s travel fund has pleaded guilty and agreed to repay $1 million.
The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/2ozDTEb ) reports 52-year-old Connie Guild pleaded guilty Thursday to theft concerning programs that receive federal money and filing a false income tax return. She faces up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 for the theft conviction and up to three years in prison and fines of up to $100,000 for the false tax return conviction.
A state audit shows more than $1.1 million in disbursements from the fund were “undocumented and/or posted to the general ledger but not the travel log” between January 2007 and early September 2016.
Guild was the county’s senior accounting specialist and custodian of the fund until she was fired Sept. 7.
