MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s highest court has overturned the sentencing of a former Rutland city attorney convicted in a 2013 hit-and-run crash that killed a 71-year-old woman.
Christopher Sullivan was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he was found guilty in March 2015 of DUI with death resulting and leaving the scene of an accident. Authorities say Sullivan was drunk when he struck 71-year-old Mary Jane Outslay, of Mendon, with his vehicle in April 2013. He was disbarred following the conviction.
WCAX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2nNaRCd ) that on appeal his lawyers said the trial court allowed unreliable testimony and that they didn’t get enough time to present expert witness testimony.
The Supreme Court on Friday overturned his sentencing while his convictions still stand.
