ROYALTON, Vt. (AP) - The central Vermont town of Royalton has voted against merging with two neighboring school districts, which stops several proposed school consolidations in the region.
Vermont Public Radio reports (https://bit.ly/2o9nlQF ) six of seven communities in the White River Valley Supervisory Union voted in favor of the mergers, but all communities must vote “yes” for new districts to get tax incentives under the state’s school district consolidation law.
Superintendent Bruce Labs says the towns will have to examine why Royalton voters rejected the proposal.
No official meeting has been scheduled to revisit the topic. The deadline for consolidations to be approved by voters is July 1.
