CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a police officer and two bystanders pulled a man who slipped and fell into the Cedar River in northeastern Iowa from the water.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/2oEqNpJ ) that the rescue happened Thursday near the Ice House Museum in Cedar Falls.

Public Safety Director Jeff Olson says the man in his 40s was fishing next to a dam when he fell into the water below the flood gates. The man was unable to swim against the strong current where he fell.

Police say he lost consciousness and drifted downstream. An officer and two bystanders pulled him from the water, and an ambulance took him to a hospital. His condition was not known Thursday afternoon.
