The chief economic development officer for Anne Arundel County, Maryland has resigned his post nearly a week following his Friday arrest for illegally entering a neighbor’s home and rummaging through her underwear drawer.
The Annapolis Capital noted Bob Hannon’s resignation in a story published online Wednesday. On Tuesday, the Capital reported Mr. Hannon had been placed on unpaid leave by County Executive Steve Schuh.
The 70-year-old CEO of the county’s Economic Development Corporation “was charged Friday with first- and fourth-degree burglary, fourth-degree theft and theft less than $100” in the incident the newspaper said, citing the Annapolis Police Department. Mr. Hannon was released from custody after posting $100,000 bail.
A security camera caught Mr. Hannon “removing items of lingerie from a bedroom dresser and placing them back into the drawer about 10 second [sic] later,” noted the Capital, city a police report. “Police said neither the neighbor nor the home’s landlord gave Hannon permission to enter the apartment.”
In a story on Mr. Hannon’s arrest on Friday, the Capital said there were no signs of forced entry and that the police report indicated that Mr. Hannon likely had a set of keys for the apartment.
Mr. Hannon, a political appointee, will be replaced eventually by Mr. Schuh, a Republican. In the meantime, reported the Capital, “The county’s Chief Administrative Officer, Mark Hartzell, will serve as acting CEO until a permanent replacement is found.”
