TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A Tulsa attorney has been charged in connection with the theft of more than $587,000 from clients whose estates he had overseen in probate court.

The Tulsa World (https://bit.ly/2dcRPhj ) reports that Christopher Mansfield was charged with one count of bank fraud and one count of unlawful monetary transaction. Mansfield pleaded not guilty to both charges Thursday.

U.S. Attorney Danny Williams said Mansfield took the money from 11 estates over a three-year period ending in October and used it for personal expenses.

According to Williams, Mansfield, as the probate attorney, was able to open bank accounts in the name of the estate in order to deposit, disburse and transfer money.

An investigation was launched by the IRS and FBI after the Oklahoma Bar Association and Tulsa County probate court found irregularities with estates under Mansfield’s control.
