WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Airport Corporation board of directors has appointed a new leader for T.F. Green Airport.

The board on Thursday announced the appointment of Iftikhar Ahmad as the new president and CEO. His appointment concludes a six-month national search for a new leader for the Warwick airport.

Ahmad currently leads airport operations at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, where he has served as the director of aviation since May 2010. Ahmad starts his new role Oct. 13.

RIAC board of directors Chairman Jonathan Savage says Ahmad has a record of success in growing passenger traffic in New Orleans and a strong history of building community support.

Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo in a statement praised Ahmad’s appointment, saying he’ll be a strong partner in growing the state’s economy.
