HAMPTON, Iowa (AP) - A northern Iowa woman has been given 10 years in prison for seriously injuring her niece.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jessica Torres, of Hampton, was sentenced Thursday. She’d pleaded guilty to assault causing serious injury and child endangerment resulting in injury. She was given five years for each crime, to be served consecutively.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says Torres was taking care of her elementary school-age niece on May 14 when Torres pushed her down hard in a bathroom, causing head and eye injuries.
