HINESBURG, Vt. (AP) - Nine Hinesburg residents are appealing to the state’s highest court a recent decision to allow Vermont Gas to start construction on a natural gas pipeline in the town.
Vermont Public Radio (https://bit.ly/2dwTPE7 ) reports the group asked the state Public Service Board to reconsider this month’s decision granting easement access to the utility to begin work on the pipeline under Geprags Park via horizontal drilling. If the decision’s upheld, the case will go to the state Supreme Court.
The ruling allows the company to build using eminent domain, meaning the town doesn’t have a choice in the matter.
The group’s lawyer says it gives Vermont Gas the right to cut trees and close sections of the public park.
A Vermont Gas spokeswoman says the opposition group should accept the board’s ruling.
