WESTPORT, Mass. (AP) - Massachusetts State Police say three people have died and several others were injured in a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 195 in Westport.

Police say a preliminary investigation found that a westbound livery minivan crossed the median just after 8 a.m. Wednesday and hit an eastbound BMW head-on. A third vehicle then struck the BMW and caught fire. Two other vehicles were damaged.

Two people in the livery vehicle died. A third occupant was taken to the hospital. One occupant of the BMW, identified as a 24-year-old New Bedford woman, was killed. Two other people, including a toddler, were taken to hospitals.



No names have been released.

The eastbound side of I-195 was closed, and the left lane of the westbound side was closed during the investigation.
