The headquarters of the police department at the center of the latest furor over police brutality has been evacuated over a bomb threat.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Headquarters had been scheduled to host a 4:40 p.m. news conference when the evacuation order was given, Charlotte TV stations reported.

A section of the parking lot was blocked off, and fire and bomb personnel were quickly deployed.

Before the evacuation, which was caused by a suspicious package according to Fox46-TV in Charlotte, the NAACP had been scheduled to present a list of demands to city leaders over police shootings.
