BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police have announced an arrest in the death of a child who was caught in the crossfire of gunshots that broke out when adults began arguing over a cellphone.

Police shared a photo Tuesday on its Twitter account of officers taking suspect Joseph Lewis into custody in the death of 4-year-old Rodriquez Ferguson.

Media outlets report that according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Rodriquez died Sunday at Children’s Hospital.

Birmingham police Sgt. Brian Shelton says police responded to a report of shots fired Sunday afternoon in the Ensley neighborhood. Police found that Ferguson had been shot outside his home.

Shelton says shooting started after an argument between adults over a cellphone.

It was not immediately known if Lewis has an attorney.
