PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Officials in Portland, Maine, are asking for the public’s help in solving the mystery of why three dozen dead seagulls have turned up in a public park in the city.
Thirty-six dead juvenile herring gulls have been collected from Deering Oaks Park in the city over the past three weeks.
Maine wildlife officials say three of the gulls were sent to the National Wildlife Disease Lab in Wisconsin for testing. The testing is expected to be completed in several days.
In the meantime, officials with Portland and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife are asking the public to report any dead birds they find in the Portland area.
Officials ask that the public avoid handling any dead birds they find.
