BETHEL, Vt. (AP) - The town of Bethel will be getting a temporary make-over.
During the first weekend of October, the town will be transformed with the addition of a new temporary bike lane, pop-up shops, a youth center, a beer garden and live music in empty parking lots.
Organizers say the Better Block project is a way for people to see what a better Bethel could look and feel like.
Bethel has mostly recovered from the damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene five years ago. But organizers of the event say the town continues to struggle with aging historic buildings and empty storefronts.
AARP Vermont is working with Bethel Revitalization Initiative and Team Better Block to coordinate the efforts.
